About Me

Ashley K Cornejo

Who am I?

Born and raised in Anaheim, California, I've centered my life focusing on the betterment of being a
joyous resource to other people. During my primary & secondary education, I was immersed in a musical upbringing,
learning how to read and play music at the age of 9 and continuing my musical journey until my senior year of high
school and now just playing music recreationally. I played multiple instruments; piano, alto saxophone, tuba/sousaphone,
and the ukulele. While I didn't continue a musical focus in my higher education, I focused on another passion and
creative outlet that I always strived to excel in; my writing capabilities. While attending the University of California
Merced (2019-2023), I've crafted numerous research papers and other creative forms of writing such as poetry, blog posts, infographics, and more. As I continue to advance in my career, I've dedicated much of my writings to important
topics that mean a lot to me, such as mental health awareness and different issues with major societal impacts.

My Career so far

I started working when I was 16 and have come to understand and achieve a balance between school, work, and my personal life, though it hasn't been easy, it has created the hard worker I am today. My future endeavors I hope will continue along a path that aligns with my values, as I seek to create better communities in those I work with/in, which is what I've currently done for the past year and a half through my job experience at UC Merced as a Resident Assistant. Through my work, I've sought to create a friendly and safe environment within the residential halls (dormitories) by ensuring meaningful relationships with the residents I oversee, planning/hosting events to create a sense of community, and advocating for the needs of the students in collaborative meetings with coworkers and supervisor(s). While I am still in search of a career after my undergrad. to call mine, one thing I know is I make every moment of any opportunity meaningful to not only myself but those being affected by my work/projects. So I hope to explore the workforce and develop a loyalty to that career I can safely put my heart and soul into.
